Overview of the Purpose Project Elements

The Purpose Project is divided into 2 core phases.  In some cases, phase one can take place in one 90 minute session.  For students, phase 1 it is often divided into 3 smaller sessions.  The outline of the path is as follows.

Purpose Project Phase 1

15 Minute Intro (or Intake Session)

Survey (Self Assessment)

Success Coaching Session 1 - Life Experiences and Personality Type

Success Coaching Session 2 - Talents, Values, Motivators, Passions

Success Coaching Session 3 - Themes & Core Strengths and Success Factors

Purpose Project Phase 2

Success Coaching Session 4 - Purpose Statements, SMART Goals & Building Your Team

Success Coaching Session 5 - SWOT Analysis & Urgent/Import Matrix

Success Coaching Session 6 - Strategies for Staying Focused and Motivated

Introduce the Purpose Project with a Puzzle Piece Analogy

  • This is not fortune telling.  There are no crystal balls.  This is an intentional approach to studying some of the most important puzzle pieces that form who you are and who you can become.   Most of us will put more effort and strategy into solving an actual puzzle then we will looking for themes within our own design.

The Purpose Project Survey

  • The answers provided by each participant in our survey are transferred into a one page summary that the guide references throughout the sessions
  • It is editable, so feel free to add in new ideas that are uncovered in your conversation
  • Take note of the excitement score.  There is a question we ask on every survey that requires the participant to share their level of excitement in being a part of this Purpose Project on a scale of 1 to 10.  One being not excited at all and ten being super excited.
  • Low scores indicate someone who is likely being mandated to be a part of this by either a judge, parent or employer.  Our 15 minute intro sessions are designed to help increase their excitement level and as a result, their level of participation and vulnerability before they meet with a guide.
  • Higher scores indicate someone who is opting into this process on their own will and will often bring focus and vulnerability to the questions from the start.
  • Mid-range scores indicate a mix of interest and skepticism which is something we try and address in the 15 minute intro.

Intro calls may be done by staff, here is what to do if you do them...

In your first session, your goal is to break the ice and let the participant know a little about who you are and why you are doing this.  A good format to use for this is...

  1. Speak to the problem the workshop is addressing
  2. Speak to the path the workshop will take
  3. Tell them a very brief, but powerful story on why this is meaningful use of your time and theirs

Speak to the problem the workshop is addressing by highlighting some of the areas that distract us from experiencing clarity and confidence with our unique design and purpose.  They can be things such as (but not limited to)…

Not having the right guides that can help us unlock our potential

Overlooking our core strengths that give us a competitive advantage

Spending time doing things that don’t align to our unique design

Ignoring the things that truly motivate us

Unintentionally following the same routines and patterns that limit our success

Letting pivotal development opportunities like this never become a priority

Speak to the path the workshop will take by providing an overview of their one page report and how you will both be searching for themes in their answers that will highlight a core strength and eventually point to potential paths and success factors.

Tell them a powerful story by being vulnerable and sharing your own frustrations/struggles around a time in your life when you were not experiencing clarity and confidence with your unique identity, purpose and sense of belonging.  What problems were you facing? How would a guide equipped with the Purpose Project have helped you accelerate your level of clarity and confidence?

NOTE: After intro sessions, participants are given the Purpose Project Survey link to complete.  We found that this draws more thoughtful responses from them.
